Because somewhere after writing and publishing Rykhan, I just kinda, sorta lost my mojo in every area of who I considered myself to be.
I mean everything was gone…and as a writer I found nothing would happen when I’d sit at the computer as I attempted to write. And that, my friends, is a terrible, horrible, very bad thing!
After a few email-swaps, that lovely lady in Colorado (named D.P. Fletcher) became both a friend and coach, encouraging me to turn-off the negative editor in my head and allow the stories in my heart to bubble up again. So I asked her if she wanted to co-write a series with me (her emails really were that awesome!). We kicked around a few ideas before one of us asked the question, ‘what happens to the girls who age out of the foster care system? What are their lives like as adults?’. And within weeks (after researching the subject), we had a framework and not too long after, saw the possibility of a five book series.
And that’s how the Broken Girls Series was born.
It gives me great pleasure to announce ‘Phoebe’, Book One of that series was just published yesterday.
The second book in the Broken Girls series, ‘Vonnie’, is in progress and is scheduled for release by September 1, 2016. D.P. and I are still trying to agree on a pre-order date and work on the book blurb.
So, I guess what you can get from this long over-due blog post, is that I’m back in the writing groove. All because of one email from one reader received at the perfect time. So go on, write to your favorite authors. Let them know how much you appreciate their work and cheer them on in their efforts to create the stories you want to read.
You never know how much those emails mean to us and can make a difference by helping them overcome the doubts all authors harbor as they work alone.
Until next time (…and I promise I won’t stay away so long going forward),
